In the 1990s, yoga exploded as a means of transformation and restoration and engagement with the higher self. Some women who might have once been attracted to yoga for solace and subtly subversive self-care are seeking stronger brew.

The Bible Says “When you enter the land that God, your God, is giving you, don’t take on the abominable ways of life of the nations there. Don’t you dare sacrifice your son or daughter in the fire. Don’t practice divination, sorcery, fortunetelling, witchery, casting spells, holding séances, or channeling with the dead. People who do these things are an abomination to God.” Deuteronomy 18: 9-12

“Modern day witchcraft is about good vibes, self-empowerment and girl power. Witchcraft is all about self-care, empowering yourself and spreading cosmic vibes.” It is this history ― from 1486 on ― that explains today’s global feminist protest chant, ‘We are the granddaughters of all the witches you could not burn!’” “As an archetype, the witch stands firmly with other women, yet is bowed by no man.”

As Gloria Steinem famously said, “Women are the only demographic that gets more radical as it ages.” Small wonder older women would be witches ― it’s one of the few pursuits in which women accrue more relevance as they mature, rather than being remanded to has-been status once they’ve moved past their years of peak fertility, beauty and malleability.

However, these women looking for relevance do not pay attention to the Bible when it says “But as for the … sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, … their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8

Big business has pegged Paganism and witches as a trend. Pop culture has its place as a message-bearer by which many future witches are first exposed to the craft. Says practicing witch Sara Coughlin in a piece published in Refinery29: “Where now we have The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, American Horror Story: Coven, and a Charmed reboot, I grew up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Craft, and Practical Magic.”

Sephora announced a plan to market and sell a Starter Witch Kit.  (Undaunted, Allure magazine stepped into the beauty biz witch void by offering an article on color magick, with corresponding links to yellow Versace perfume, red Yves Saint Laurent lipstick, black Origins charcoal mask and the like.)

We as Christians should be careful not to be trapped into witchcraft through feminist movements both inside and outside of the church, Yoga, Halloween, books like Harry Potter, Horror films and board games. Those Christians that were involved in any of the activities that lead to witchcraft must repent before God. They should name the specific activity and asking the blood of Jesus to cleanse them from the association with evil powers.

The Bible says “Many of those who thus believed came out of the closet and made a clean break with their secret sorceries. All kinds of witches and warlocks came out of the woodwork with their books of spells and incantations and made a huge bonfire of them.” Acts 19:19-20
